Many of us may talk about financial independence or financial freedom but the question is how many of us actually achieve it? In today’s economic climate, financial freedom may appear to be an illusive goal. That does not have to be so.

Carefully consider setting in place a money management program. Make your money management plan simple, realistic and achievable so that you can stick to it.

Here are some money managing ideas that can set you on a course to financial independence.

**Set Your Goals**

Defining the goals for your life and work is crucial to your success. Your goals should be specific. When you set your goals, prioritize them so that the path becomes easier to follow. ([Eliminating credit card debt](http://www.controlcreditcarddebt.com/monthly-payment-formula.html) should be a priority goal.) Whatever goals you set, always keep them in focus. Reinforce your goals as often and in as many ways as possible, so when in times of trouble, you can remind yourself of their importance.

**Spend Your Money Wisely**

Within your expenses, differentiate between needs and wants, then avoid or eliminate the extraneous wants. Before making any purchase, be true to yourself and the goals you set by asking yourself “Do I really need that?” Only you can answer this question but you must be honest with yourself and remember your goal of financial freedom. **New Trends Towards Financial Management**

Economic insecurity is a fast rising concern for most people. Many who are faced with the possibility of near bankruptcy, due to the rising cost of living and the weak job market, are focusing their attention on alternatives, to help support themselves and their families. Many are on the look out for secondary sources of income as back up in case of a financial emergency such as a job loss.

Those already suffering at the hands of the social trends are desparately trying to make ends meet and are looking for a chance to restart their careers.

Achieving [financial freedom](http://www.controlcreditcarddebt.com/financial-freedom.html) is not about how much money you earn, but how wisely you use what you earn.
